DMARC is looking for you!!!! The Des Moines Area Religious Council is creating a volunteer Community Engagement Committee that will help the people of Des Moines learn about each other's needs and each other's faith traditions. This committee will replace previous committees on Interfaith Engagement and Education, both of which have been on hiatus for a couple of years. Our first meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. If you'd like to help, contact Sarai Rice at sarai@dmreligious.org or 515-277-6969.

Cooking Together, Cooking Forever (CTCF)
is an exciting new program and a joint venture between ConAgra Foods Foundation, Giant Eagle Supermarkets and Programs for Sustainable Change. CTCF was developed as a four month comprehensive, multi-media program for parents with children ages 9 to 16. "Earth Words" Sermon Contest
Iowa Interfaith Power & Light is pleased to announce its annual Earth Words Sermon Contest to coincide with the national Interfaith Power & Light Preach-in, the weekend of Feb 10-12. This is an opportunity for faith leaders of all religious traditions to remember their connection to the Earth and to inspire their congregations to faithful action on environmental stewardship. Winning sermons will be shared through Iowa IPL's newsletter and website. In addition, prizes will be awarded for the top three sermons. Employment, job training, volunteering
Online Community Manager:
Will help build and foster a growing online community around Cooking Up a Story, an internet-based show and blog about food and sustainable living. We will be launching a new YouTube channel in April called Food Farmer Earth, and principal responsible will focus on the promotion of this new channel to attract viewers. The ideal candidate will possess a strong interest in food, agriculture, and environmental issues with demonstrated effective use of social media skills.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Develop an active community on the new Food Farmer Earth YouTube channel.
2. Through the use of social media, increase audience and community involvement around the CUPS content on multiple interrelated sites.
3. Write brief descriptions for short-form video content that will be published weekly.
4. Curate related video content using built-in YouTube publishing tools on a scheduled basis, and on related sites.
5. Provide weekly detailed written reports of current social media outreach efforts and results, and short written status updates throughout each week.
Required Qualifications:
-Strong social media skills using standard tools such as Facebook, twitter, Google+, and others.
-self-starter, well organized, with excellent time management skills who enjoys working on their own, and possesses a strong work ethic.
-solid communication skills, especially the ability to communicate effectively in written form.
-Genuine interest not only in the food and sustainability arena, but also an enjoyment, and interest in short and long form video content for acquiring new information.
-College Degree in one of the following, or related fields: Journalism; Communications; or Agriculture.
-Dependable, and ready access to internet broadband service.
-Must be available for work, Monday-Friday (excluding unpaid holidays) 4 hours per day.
Salary Compensation: $15-$17 per hour, DOE. This is a part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week. Who are we?
The Des Moines Area Religious Council is an interfaith organization with a core membership of about 130 congregations from ten faith traditions. Recipient of the 2010 Aurora Award from the Des Moines Register, DMARC provides a common means of responding to basic human needs and a context for interfaith dialogue.
The DMARC Food Pantry Network consists of 12 separate pantry sites, a centralized warehouse, and numerous community partners. It is the largest food pantry network in Iowa. Pantry sites are located in West Des Moines, Ankeny, Johnston, Urbandale, and eight sites in Des Moines. In 2010, the DMARC Food Pantry Network assisted about 10,000 families.
MovetheFood is a DMARC-led initiative to address the entire food system in Greater Des Moines, building on more than 35 years of the Food Pantry Network, catalyzing fresh generations, and engaging new constituencies to further support a vision for a day when everyone in Polk County has enough to eat.
